Roblox Moderation and Bans — What Triggers Action and How Appeals Work

The content that gets moderated, how ban tiers work, and the appeal path when a filter gets it wrong.

What gets moderated

The moderation system screens chat, usernames, images, audio and experience content against community standards: harassment and hate, dating and romance content, real-world sensitive topics, off-platform links, and anything sexual or violent beyond the platform’s rating. Machine filters catch most of it instantly; appeals correct the false positives they also produce.

Ban tiers

Warnings and 1–7 day bans cover most first offenses; content deletion accompanies chat/image removals. Repeated or severe violations escalate to permanent account deletion. Experience-level actions (takedowns) hit the game rather than the account. Every action cites a category — read it before appealing, because "I did not do it" appeals without addressing the cited category usually fail.

The appeal path

Appeals go through the support form with the account email. Effective appeals are short: what happened, why the action was wrong (with context — a medical term flagged as harassment, for example), and the ban reference. Filter false positives (harmless words caught by aggressive matching) are common and routinely reversed; honesty about genuine mistakes with a commitment to the rules also lands well.

FAQ

Can a permanently banned account be recovered?

Severe violations (threats, exploitation of minors, fraud) are permanent. Overturned appeals exist for filter errors and account-theft cases where the ban followed the theft.

Why was my innocent chat message deleted?

Machine filters match patterns, not intent — numbers, lookalike characters and context all trip false positives. They are annoying, appealable, and not recorded as serious strikes.
